When does a varicocele require surgery?
By “varicose veins” we mean a varicocele, which in most cases means dilation of the veins of the left testicle. In such cases it isn’t possible to give one definitive answer. If it is grade 1 and causes no complaints, no surgery is needed.
If it is grade 2 or 3, there must still be an indication. If he cannot father a child, or if it causes discomfort or pain, then surgery is indicated. Or if the patient himself says he would like to have the operation preventively, to be rid of it, that is also possible.
Because this condition does not go away on its own. And there are people who are older, 40 or 50 years old, who already have children and a family, and who have a grade 4 varicocele.
If it causes no complaints, there is no need to operate on it. If he is a young man and there are also changes in the semen, if the sperm are weak, then yes, treatment is still needed.
