Is a zero sperm count an obstacle to becoming a father?
A sperm count of zero doesn’t necessarily mean it is truly zero. Because that zero is the count in the semen coming from the seminal vesicles. There may be a problem in the ducts before that point.
In other words, the testicles may well be producing sperm, and there is simply an obstruction in those ducts. In such cases a sample must be taken from the testicles and examined under a microscope so that sperm can be detected or ruled out. If the count is zero there too, then yes, there is no chance of becoming a father. But if even one or two sperm are found there, then there is a chance of becoming a father, and in addition, once the problem has been identified through examination, those ducts can later be treated — and if the ducts are opened, there is a chance of becoming a father naturally.
