How does urological surgery differ in Azerbaijan, Germany and Turkey?
Whether operations differ very often depends on the surgeon, on the surgeon’s experience, and at the same time on the technical equipment. These are factors that complement each other. If the surgeon is experienced and professional but the necessary instruments or technical equipment are not available, then the operation cannot go well.
So both are important factors. A surgeon’s experience should be high in Azerbaijan, in Turkey and in Germany alike. But in practical terms — since I work in Germany myself — I cannot perform the robotic surgery I do in Germany in Azerbaijan.
Because robotic surgery is not available in Azerbaijan. And even if it were, it would create a major problem for performing the operation in patients in Azerbaijan. What is that problem?
The instruments used in robotic surgery each have their own cost of use. You could say that every operation can involve at least 1,000 euros in costs for those instruments. And that depends on the patients’ financial situation.
Of course, Turkey itself has this problem too. Many people there turn to robotic surgery, turn to surgeons. In Germany, meanwhile, many clinics have robotic surgery. So when we talk about a difference, looking at it from a technical point of view: if the instruments are there and the surgeon has the experience, this can be done not only in Azerbaijan but in African countries as well.
